In December of 2011, the Minneapolis Downtown Council put out their vision for Minneapolis. How many times did they mention equity, diversity, or disparities? As HIRE Minnesota leader Ralph Wyman put it, “Zippo. Nada. Silent.”
HIRE Minnesota immediately worked to bring this issue to the public’s attention. The Star Tribune published a commentary highlighting HIRE’s stance. With growing disparities, development in our region cannot happen in a silo. We must have an integrated approach so that equity is viewed as a necessary component of each and every plan for how our city and region grow.
HIRE Minnesota will continue this campaign in 2012 and beyond as we continue to work to move Minnesota from worst to first in racial equity in employment.
