Jan. 1, 2016

As we welcome 2016, we want to remind ourselves of all that we can accomplish in a year.

In 2015, we organized, agitated, and pushed for more practices that ensured people of color were a part of the many opportunities in this state to have a flourishing career. Due to our work, we continue to make strides and create history as more and more people of color enter the workforce. Here’s a quick peak at what we were able to accomplish this year:

  • The Vikings Stadium continues to exceed 32 percent minority workforce hours on the project. The Vikings Stadium is on track to having the most minority workforce hours of any project in the history of MN.

  • For the first time in its existence, MN Department of Transportation will surpass 10 percent statewide for number of hours worked by people of color.

  • The City of Minneapolis reaches a record high of 23 percent minority hours out of all closed projects in 2015.

  • The Met Council has committed to practices that have the ingredients to successfully meeting goals on Blue and Green Line LRT extensions.

  • Department of Administration’s Capitol Renovation projects are on track to meet or exceed hiring goals.

  • Department of Human Services and Department of Employment and Economic Development have committed to securing new employment and training funding for SNAP recipients.

In total, we have helped secure over $100 million dollars in wages to people of color and a potential $20 million more in employment and training services.

We have truly come a long way. But there is still much to be done. We’ll leave that for 2016 :)

Happy New Year!
